RVALUG News for August 2025

July was another fun month for RVALUG. We had a great meeting with a LEGO set draft and the LUG also Displayed at Brick Fair in Chantilly! This year at Brickfair RVALUG debuted our redesigned Western themed display. A 2 table western town and train epic!  Many thanks to LUG President Chris Ost for spearheading this redevelopment project throughout 2024!

Tell us about your favorite LEGO theme:
My Favorite theme is the LEGO Winter Village Theme (https://www.lego.com/en-us/cat…). I like the design and scale of the theme, the price point is more reasonable to me than the modular theme, and it has a limited release schedule of maybe two sets per year (when you include things like the GWP that accompany it). Which make it a manageable theme for a collector like me that doesn’t display anything at home.  Every few years, though – the LEGO Christmas display is epic.

What is the last LEGO set you built? What did you like about it? What made you buy it?
Set number 76311; Spider-Verse: Miles Morales vs. The Spot (https://www.lego.com/en-us/pro…). I am a big fan of the Spider-verse movies and bought this because it is the only set officially tied to the movie, despite many sets previously being suspiciously linked to the movie. Spider-Man Noir and Spider-ham appearing in a few sets in the regular Spider-man theme, for example. I recently incorporated this into a MOC for BrickFair:

What is the earliest LEGO memory in your life?

I never really connected it with LEGO but the toy box in my house growing up had some fabuland parts inside it. I realized this after seeing a Fabuland MOC at a brick fair that featured a recognizable part that unlocked this connection for me. It was the Fabuland Roof Support Slope, 6 x 2

I was the youngest of 6 kids so everything in that box was a mish mash of whatever toys survived my siblings before me. The building toy I remember most from my childhood was Fisher Price Construx, not LEGO.
